About Fame Academy
Since its inception in 2006, over two thousand children have attended Fame Academy holiday workshops. The holiday programmes aim to instill a love of theatre and provide a space for children and teens to express themselves and build confidence. Previous Fame Academy themes have included The Lion King, Grease, Mamma Mia!, Shrek, We Will Rock You, The Best of South African Music, Annie, Dirty Dancing and more. Children grow an appreciation for musicals, the arts and storytelling. Past celebrity guests include Shanon Esra, Timothy Moloi, Kiruna-Lindt Devar, Harry Sideropoulos, Nicholas Nkuna, Emmanuel Castis and Samantha Peo
Previous students have gone on to appear in professional productions of Matilda, The Sound of Music and Beauty and The Beast. We have past students currently studying drama and theatre at Universities in South Africa, New York and in the UK. A number are also already working professionally in film, television and theatre.
Vicky Friedman
Vicky Friedman is a South African theatre maker and producer.
She is a two-time Naledi Theatre Award nominee and producer of a BASA award winning musical. In her early career she starred on stage in musicals such as Chicago, Hairspray, Annie and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Vicky’s extensive experience spans performing, directing, writing, ‘eventing’, mentoring and teaching.
Vicky is passionate about the transformative power of the performing arts. She is devoted to creating theatre for youth and empowering young people by providing them with opportunities to engage in dance, drama, and music, and equipping them with skills for life.
